Thalassa is a 48’ yawl, which has been in the same family for 70 years - firstly owned by Alan Baker and then his daughter and son-in-law. Her 100th birthday was celebrated in great style at the Royal Corinthian in Cowes on 10th June 2006. Over 150 people (nearly all of them had sailed on her at some time) attended the lunch party. They presented the skipper with a commemorative log, which contained a brief history and tributes and anecdotes, and also a  1:24 scale model, which had been superbly made by Jan Hack from St Austell

    She was raced hard until the late fifties and is still sailed most weekends, from the middle of May until the end of September. It is estimated that she must have sailed about 250,000 miles since Alan Baker bought her in 1936.
